Publinova is the national platform for open, practice-oriented research.

Publinova is the national platform for open, practice-oriented research. It brings together Dutch universities of applied sciences, the Association of Universities of Applied Sciences, SIA and SURF to make practice-based research visible, searchable and shareable. The platform aggregates research results, projects, people and organizational partners, enabling discovery via search engines and on Publinova itself. Publinova supports open science by enabling researchers and educational institutions to connect, share knowledge, and download open-access outputs. It operates as a service of SURF and is developed in collaboration with its partner networks to maximise societal impact from applied research.

Publinova aims to make practice-based research more visible, findable, and available at a national level across universities of applied sciences, regions, systems and domains.

More information about our offering

Activating Inner Development in Tourism

Activating inner development in tourism is a practice-oriented product that explores how inner development approaches can support transformative change in the tourism sector. Researchers from Inholland University of Applied Sciences and Breda University of Applied Sciences applied the Inner Development Guide framework in a professional tourism context. A participatory workshop, grounded in systems thinking and transformative learning, was designed and implemented with stakeholders connected to Amsterdam’s tourism sector. Findings show that self-reflection on personal values, emotions, and mental models is valuable but challenging, signaling the need for sustained engagement, clear facilitation, and time to foster inner work. The project frames inner development as a long-term, collective learning process that complements outer, structural change.

  • Empowers Tourism Professionals
By integrating the IDG framework, tourism professionals enhance their capacity for self-awareness and relational thinking, leading to transformative practices in the industry.
  • Encourages Sustainable Practices
Promotes ongoing engagement in personal growth and development, fostering an environment for continuous improvement in tourism sustainability.
  • Facilitates Participatory Engagement
Engages stakeholders actively in discussions, allowing for shared insights and collaborative problem-solving in tourism contexts.
  • Enhances Personal Insights
Encourages tourism professionals to reflect on their experiences and beliefs, which can lead to more authentic and impactful practices.

Staan we met taal vooraan? De toepassing van de training Met Taal Vooraan (MTV) in de praktijk

Staan we met taal vooraan? describes the Met Taal Vooraan (MTV) training, which is offered by logopedists to pedagogical professionals at preschools to stimulate language development. Since 2020 a train-the-trainer course has been introduced to equip logopedists with tools to provide MTV to professionals. The project maps the implementation of this training by logopedists who completed the course between 2020 and 2024 and collects information on application, level of implementation, and barriers and enablers in transferring the course to practitioners.

  • Enhance Language Development
Provide pedagogical professionals with tools and strategies to support and stimulate language skills in preschool-aged children.
  • Track Training Adoption
Investigate the practical application of the MTV training by logopedists to ensure effective implementation across various settings.
  • Empower Logopedists
Equip logopedists with necessary skills and resources to train others effectively, promoting wider application of MTV training.
  • Identify Challenges and Successes
Gather insights on the elements that either support or impede the effective delivery of the MTV training to practitioners.

Methodology and sourcing behind the figures shown above.

Scholarly communication and discoverability services

Estimated using published market research for library/discovery services as a direct proxy for the discoverability portion of scholarly communication services. Market Intelo explicitly values the global library discovery services market at $1.2 billion (2025) with a 6.8% CAGR to 2034; broader academic-publishing reports cite ~8% CAGR, supporting mid-single-digit growth expectations for adjacent discoverability and metadata services.

Practice-oriented professional development

Primary global professional development market figures (Mordor Intelligence: ~USD 59.7B in 2026) and smaller submarket reports (teacher PD ~$9.8B; leadership development ~USD 7.6B) were used to size this practice‑oriented services subsegment. Practice‑oriented PD (training design, train‑the‑trainer, workshop facilitation) is a services‑heavy slice of the broader professional development ecosystem; assuming services/implementation represent roughly 20–30% of total PD spend yields an estimated market ~USD 15B. Growth potential references show overall PD growth in the mid‑single digits (Mordor ~5.0% CAGR) with higher growth in service/education subsegments (teacher PD ~7.2% CAGR), so a blended CAGR of ~6.5% reflects stronger demand for applied, skills‑transfer programs.

Stakeholder research and engagement

Estimate derived by anchoring to explicit market figures for adjacent engagement markets in the search results. Future Market Insights (community engagement platforms) reports a 2025 platform market of USD 4.313 billion and 18.3% CAGR; broader customer/patient engagement solution reports show much larger software+services markets (USD ~25–28B) growing at ~10–14% CAGR. Stakeholder research & engagement is a narrower mix of community engagement platforms plus consulting/research services; combining the 2025 platform base (≈$4.3B) with an uplift for professional services yields an estimated ~USD 6.0 billion addressable market in 2025 and a blended growth potential around 12% CAGR (between platform software growth and services growth rates).

Utility Mapping and Asset Management

Estimate combines explicit market values for adjacent segments in the search results: Utility Asset Management (USD 5.18B, 6.8% CAGR) and Underground Utility Mapping (USD 2.9B, 8.1% CAGR). Summing those markets yields ~USD 8.08B; weighted-average CAGR (~7.3%) derived from each segment’s reported CAGR weighted by their market sizes.

Residential energy storage and resilience

Primary estimate uses Fact.MR (updated May 30, 2026) which explicitly values the global residential energy storage market at USD 21.072 billion in 2026 and forecasts a 13.9% CAGR to 2036. MarketsandMarkets and other sources report lower figures (e.g., USD 2.69B in 2024 to USD 4.58B by 2030 at 9.3% CAGR), indicating differences in scope/definitions; Fact.MR's broader market definition and recent year-aligned estimate were used as the primary basis.
