Building Potential is a nonprofit trade association focused on energy efficiency and building decarbonization. It evolved from the Northwest Energy Efficiency Council and, since 2024, operates under the name Building Potential while the organization’s legal name remains the same. It advances its mission through market-based thought leadership, education, and advocacy, and serves building owners, operators, energy service professionals, and policymakers. Through programs such as the Smart Buildings Center, Tool Lending Library, Building Operator Certification, Clean Buildings Performance Standard Helpdesk, K-12 ventilation resources, and other industry resources, Building Potential supports members and the broader industry in decarbonizing building energy use and improving energy efficiency. Headquartered in Seattle, Washington, the organization promotes collaboration, education, and access to trusted information, tools, and services to improve building performance and reduce carbon emissions across the sector.

Building Potential's mission is to eliminate carbon emissions from building energy use through market-based thought leadership, education, and advocacy.
